About Me
When we lived on the farm, I remember my Dad bought a cow with the intentions of fattening it up to slaughter it. The family made a pet out of it and anything else that walked on to the farm. I can still see my mom taking the two dogs and her "pet goat" to the mailbox! Rabbits, raccoons, bulls, dogs etc The neighbours bought a couple of very young bulls that I used to feed and one day, months later, they escaped their paddock and wandered up the street, tromping through flower gardens etc. Someone called the police to remove the bulls. I remember approaching the scene and the officer had his gun out. I looked at him like he was crazy, grabbed the harness's of the two bulls and lead them back to their paddock.
My love for creatures has continued. I've been lucky enough to swim with wild dolphins in Bimini, snorkel with whalesharks in Isla Mujures, cuddle with Stingrays in Columbia, watch nurse sharks snoop around the bottom for food. Floating watching a great old mama turtle as she took a small rest. DIved around some of the most amazing reefs in the Caribbean-amazed at the ecosystems and her inhabitants.Helped 24 hr old Olive Ridley turtles make it to the ocean where hopefully they'll survive, spent more $$ than I should have buying cans of peanuts, washing the salt off and feeding them to Capuchins. I was thoroughly fascinated with watching these primates and the more I did, the more I'm convinced they are our relatives-and in believing that, how we can do what we do to them Finally, I overcame my phobia of sharks so that now i see them as beautiful endangered creatures.(Phobia is when you "think" of a shark and motor past children to get out of the pool) Share with people why "Swim with Dolphin" programs are so very bad and then encourage them to watch "The Cove"
As I reviewed my Bucket List I realized most of it is to continue being with these creatures in their enviroment. Not having these creatures adapted to mine.
My dream is to one day live by the ocean so that every day I may see these creatures and learn. Post a CommentOops! The words you entered did not match the given text. Please try again. 0 Comments |
