About 16 years ago we ended up with our first pig, named Valentine! Not knowing much (basically nothing!) about pigs I began to do research on their care. What I found out was these very intellegent, sensitive creatures are bought & abandoned at an alarming rate. People buy the little bungles of joy shaped like a pig & when they grow to their normal size of 150lbs+ they are discarded like yesterdays garbage. Sometimes these "beloved pets" even end up at slaughter auctions & are sold for mere dollars.
Living in a subdivision at the time we decided to move to a hobby farm. In 2001 we purchased "our farm" & the rest is history!! We started with potbellied pigs & since have made homes for "big" pigs, horses, donkey, chickens , 2 bull calfs (discarded male calfs from a dairy mom), 3 research sheep, peafowl, dogs & cats. The sanctuary is funded by ourselves & the occasional donation (& merchandise we sell). We have a total of 36 animals (not including the 20 or so peafowl). Compared to a lot of the big sanctuaries we are small potatoes but we strive to give them all the best care possible. We are no longer open to the public for visits. Things are not always easy but we manage & the love for our animals keep us going!
